WILLA DROOTZ is fifteen and carries the weight of the world on her skinny shoulders. With no Mom, she has to take care of the house and her two little brothers. Too hip for the room - let alone the stupid street, Willa is always dreaming of a life lived anywhere but there. Witty, smart, imaginative - she sticks out of the Flux St. crowd like a sore thumb.
OSCAR MONTGOMERY is fourteen(and three quarters) and Willa's old-est, best-est friend. Adopted at age six, Oscar is on a perpetual quest to find his true roots. More level-headed than Willa, Oscar has also set his sights on bigger and better things. He's just willing to wait for them. He's the Earth to her Fire. The Calm before her Storm.
HERBIE DROOTZ is Willa's twelve year-old brother. Lost in the middle child vortex, Herbie loves to bust his big sister's chops and eat crappy foods filled with ingredients he can't pronounce.
TONSILS DROOTZ is a seven year old reading at a high-school level. Analytical and inquisitive - Tonsils enjoys making life's connections from his favorite seat - an old movie theater chair rigged on top of a street light pole.
RONNIE and DONNIE LeROY are thirteen-year old twins with polar opposite personalities. Aggressive Ronnie is always taking out his anger on docile Donnie, constant payback for being born two minutes earlier.
